I have no idea what my run time was because I had my phone tucked away so it wouldn't get soaked with the neon water, but my son and I ran most of the way while my husband and step-daughter alternated running and walking. Below are some pictures of us at the event. Can't wait to do this fun run again next year!
On Saturday night, my husband, our older two and I joined over 10,000 others for the very first Neon Splash Dash 5K in the DFW metroplex at the Ballpark in Arlington and it was a total blast! Between neon glow water, black lights, music pumpin', movin' and groovin' we all had a great time! It was so entertaining watching the people and the crazy costumes they came up with... some were pretty out there! Yesterday, my mom, my son, my daughter and I joined about 55,000 others in Downtown Dallas to walk for and support the American Heart Association's Heart Walk Dallas 2013. It was hot, but such a great time, great music and great energy supporting an even greater cause that is near and dear to my own heart, as it has and continues to impact those that we love. There were so many people of all ages, shapes, sizes, older women with canes, just a fun event for all!
My kids did great! My oldest pushed his sister in the jogger most of the time, she enjoyed the ride and had a long nap. Neither of them seemed to mind the heat! Proud of these troopers! Ready to do it again next September! © Cruzin' Thru | 2013 I've been running on and off since I gave birth to our beautiful baby girl last October. I'm not yet where I had hoped to be by now, but each day I'm getting closer and I can see the rewards of my hard work and effort! I wanted to take a minute to encourage people to fit in 20-30 minutes of some sort of cardio excercise 3 times per week. An easy walk, a light jog, heck if you can run it all - do it! The health benefits of any type of cardio are phenomenal.
Anyways, I got off track. I've been hitting it pretty hard these past six weeks and am super-stoked to get ready for some 5K and 10K races this year. Please check out www.runontexas.com/races for some race listings. Most of these are local to the DFW area, some south and west Texas as well with a couple other states occasionally sprinkled in. As a family we have committed to eating better and moving more, so I'm really excited that we are able to make most of these running events a family outing! Some of the events that we are looking forward to: * Melon Dash - August 3rd - Downtown McKinney, TX {http://www.runproject.org/race/melon-dash-5k} * Run for Retrievers - September 14 - Coppell, TX {https://secure.getmeregistered.com/get_information.php?event_id=8317} * Neon Splash Dash - September 21 - Texas Rangers Ballpark in Arlington {http://www.neonsplashdash.com/} * Plano Balloon Festival - September 22 - Half Marathon / 5K / 1K fun run Oak Point Park, Plano, TX (http://www.planoballoonfest.org/event-information/festival-runs) * Wipe Out Kids' Cancer & Addison Oktoberfest - September 21 - Addison, TX {http://www.oktoberfest5k.com/} * Komen Dallas Race for the Cure - October 19 - Plano, TX {http://www.komen-dallas.org/events/komen-dallas-race-for-the-cure/} * Deck the Trails - December 14 - Coppell, TX {http://www.runproject.org/node/16} |
