This past Saturday, I ran my first half-marathon! I am so incredibly proud of myself for accomplishing such a feat. During my training, and as I was increasing my long runs each week, I was like - 13 miles isn't that big of a deal because I'm working towards it. But, when you put it into perspective, that's 13.1 miles at one time which is huge in terms of my body's endurance, my mental perseverance and stamina, that's huge! It takes hard work, dedication, some bad runs along with the good runs - but most of all - never giving up! Not gonna lie, those last two miles weren't pretty and by the time I was finished, my muscles were tight - but so worth it! To see the pride on my loved ones' faces, to know that I did this, is amazing!
I'm working through the recovery and foam rolling away the tight muscles, and will be doing another half this year! I'm also very excited that my family wants to run with me! My little one loves to go with in the jogger and my older two like to ride their bikes while I run, sometimes my son will even run with me (although I won't let them go with me on the longer runs yet - don't want to wear them out so that they don't enjoy the activity!) My husband even wants to start running with me on a regular basis and train for a half with me!!!! We are also looking forward to some fun 5K events in the next few months! Love it when the whole family is on-board with staying fit together; and love how running has brought us all together!! |
