As a mom who is committed to providing a healthy, clean-eating diet for myself and my family, I also strive to make sure that there is a variety of color available to my family in the form of fresh fruits and veggies. I purposefully walk through the produce department at our local market every Sunday, and pick out at least one fruit and one veggie from each color category to help ensure that my family truly is receiving as much healthy nutrition as possible. Whether it's in the form of spinach salads with fruit, steamed or grilled veggies or even just snacks, I always try to make the best and most nutritional foods available to my family and also incorporate fresh fruits and veggies into every meal. (Whether or not that's what they choose, now that's a different story! And I'm sure most mom's can agree on that struggle!)
I love how the LiveStrong foundation has also broken down the color categories and the benefits derived. This makes for a good read to help round out the information above.
I encourage each and every one of you to begin incorporating more color into your daily intake. If you get tired of eating raw fruits and veggies, grill or bake them. Have you ever tried grilled bananas?! Amazing! Or even sauteed strawberries with a little honey? Delicious! Or roasted butternut squash, with a little olive oil and soIt doesn't have to be a raw-only type diet!
