With summer in full swing, this is a great time to check out some alternate urban/outdoor fitness locales! In my town, I am super-pumped that we have Trinity River Kayak shop and rentals about ready to open! Kayaking is so much fun and the beauty is, you get a serious workout all while chilling on the river! At Grapevine Lake, there are plenty of hiking and biking trails to choose from! Who wouldn't want to workout with beautiful views of the lake?! Also, you can get into some quiet areas for a nice yoga session! White Rock Paddle Co. at White Rock Lake offers canoes, kayak AND stand-up paddle board rentals! I am most excited about the paddle boards, since one hour on the boards not only works some serious core muscles, it's also an intense calorie burner! These are some of my favorite, more intense outdoor/urban fitness regimes. It's also a blast just to get out to the local park to throw some balls, get a game if volleyball going, frisbee golf... Just anything to be more active and move!
While I can't speak for every locale, chances are that you've got some great gym-alternatives in your own area - just gotta do a little looking around! But I guarantee you, it's so worth it! © Cruzin' Thru | 2013 My goodness! I feel like I've been fighting this weight loss plateau for a month or so now, but I've finally broken through that plateau and have dropped another ten pounds! So, all of the baby weight is gone and now working on making myself more fit than I was pre-pregnancy. So proud of my hard work and efforts and want to let you all know that it can and does happen! You have to have the right mindset and be committed to making it happen for YOU!
What has helped me is that I've removed most of the processed foods from my intake (notice I said most, not all, because I do have my occasional cheat days!). We're having lots of fresh/organic fruits and veggies, lean meats, more high-protein beans. I've heard people say that 'organic tastes better' and I always thought that was the dumbest thing I've heard. But it's so true! The fruits, veggies, even meat and eggs taste so much cleaner - do I dare say 'more pure'?! It is more expensive, but it's an investment in the food that you are serving to your family and I only want the best for us, so it's a great investment in my mind. We've also been buying more from the local farmer's markets, so we're getting locally grown food, and supporting the local economy. (I'm a huge proponent of buy American, buy local!) I've also changed up my routine with some interval running, adding in some cycling and also cardio/strength mix classes at my local gym. Let me tell you the cardio/strength class kills me each time, but the next couple of days when I'm sore, I remind myself that it's the feeling of getting stronger, leaner, fitter and so worth it! Check out and follow my Motivation board, link is below, to help get you through your weight loss and/or fitness journey. I have way too many motivation pins that I love, to try and show them all here! XoXo- Jess |
