Y'all, I can not believe that January has already come and gone, it just flew right by! I'm glad though, that February tends to be one of our slower months out of the year! It allows all of us to kind of catch our breath, because from October through January, we seem to be going, going, going.
I've dedicated one night each week to Young Chef's Night. My kiddos absolutely love helping with the prepping and cooking of our dinners; just last week we had an assembly line of sorts, with all of the kiddos helping prepare dinner - it was precious! Lately they've expressed that they would like to start making dinners more often, so I created this Young chef's Night. The kiddos will pick their menu the weekend before, including sides, salads, etc. - whatever they want to make. They will make their list of what they need from the store and will have a "budget" (more like $20 to use towards the cost of the ingredients for their meal). They are responsible for going to the grocery store with me, selecting the items from their list, all while keeping an eye on the total, so they don't go over. Then on the designated night, they'll make their meal with oversight from mom and dad. Not only are they learning basic food prep and cooking skills, but they're also working on their budgeting skills! Talk about a win-win!
