The first is the 5K Runner app. This app has a plan for you to get from beginner to completing a 5K that is simple to use. I love it because you can use this app along with your music, it has audio to tell you when to run/walk and allows you to publish your workout results and efforts to social media, if you desire. Great motivator is to share with your family and friends. Also, there are other variations for 10K, Half Marathon and Marathon training!
The second app, in the top right corner, is RunKeeper. This app does come with some pre-set plans and also allows you to choose between various cardio activities, such as bike riding, walking, running, swimming, skiing, etc. You can add a route, track a new route as you complete it. It will tell you in increments, how far you've gone (total), and average mph. Again, you can change the settings and there really is a lot of options to choose from. This is great for getting outdoors/off the beaten path, if you will, and having more variety of activities to choose from rather than just running.
The third app, in the bottom left corner, is MyFitnessPal. I love this becuase it is super-easy to make yourself accountable for what you're eating each day! It will also help you keep to your goal calories, whether it's 1400 calories or 2000 calories. Whatever your goal is, it makes it very easy to keep track of what you've consumed. You can build your own recipes and it will calculate the per serving nutritional info. It has a scanner, so if you're consuming food that has a barcode on it, just scan and it will add it - easy as pie! It has TONS of restaurants, food manufacturing companies, etc. I highly recommend this app. It's also pretty cool because you can put in the workouts (cardio/strength) that you complete for the day and will add that deficit into your calorie intake, which will show how much more you could consume and still be within your goal for the day. Super easy app, has a web-based version to use with a computer and it syncs real time. Love it!
The last app is NikeTrainingClub. This is my absolute favorite for any strength/toning workouts that you could ever want to find. All of the plans are pre-determined, but you can choose from just toning, to true strength training. You also have the option of just picking an area that you want to concentrate on, i.e. glutes, back, arms, etc. That's not even the best part! Each exercise comes with photos of how the exercise should be performed, but if you need additional help from that - there's also a video! For each exercise! Just like having a personal trainer. And it works very well with your own iTunes music.
These are my top four health/fitness apps and always recommend them to anyone who is looking for a new fitness app. Most of these have a web-based version so you can login from a computer as well as a mobile device, and most are free or have free versions! For very little financial impact, these can help you and have a significant impact on your journey to become healthy!
