This past weekend, we enjoyed the first ever Neon Splash Dash in Arlington and it was a blast! Most of these events always come with a shirt and most of the time they're pretty unflattering for a woman's body. And truth be told, I hate t-shirts with collars at the neck... so I modified my shirt into a racerback and it was soo easy! First, I started with my shirt...
Now, you will need a sharp pair of fabric scissors - and that's it! I started by cutting the collar of the t-shirt first... and cut as close to the seam as possible. Next, I cut the sleeves off - again as close to the seam as possible. Once those two steps are complete, I go back to the neckline and determined how wide I wanted my 'straps' to be on my shirt and how low I wanted the neckline. So I started cutting on one side only and when I was half way, I simply folded the fabric over to make a template for using to finish the cuts and help ensure it stayed pretty even on both sides (i.e. no one wants a shirt with lopsided necklines or sleeves!) Then, I cut on the sides (where the sleeves used to be) just a little more to make the straps a little thinner and down to make the sides a little bit longer. Lastly, I used ook one of the sleeves and cut along the finished edge of the sleeve, to make a strip approximately 1" wide. Use that to wrap around at the back of the shirt and gather the shirt together. Tie in a simple knot and twist so that the knot is hidden. Here is the after:
This only took about ten minutes to do, if even that and was so easy and so much more comfortable to run in! Can't wait for the next DIY clothing craft! The instructions that I used can be found here.
